PROPOSED RULES FOR DUCKWORKS DESIGN CONTEST

The principal structure of the boat shall be wood.

The boat shall be powered by an unmodified trolling motor of 30lb. thrust (or less). Unmodified means as is, out of the box. However, provision for remotely controlling the steering, on/off, and speed shall be allowed.

The trolling motor shall be powered by a 12 volt lead-acid battery. (24 volt, NiCd, NiMH, etc. aren’t allowed.)

The boat must be capable of carrying 1 adult.

Any aerodynamic devices shall be fixed. (No fair to pop a sail out on the downwind leg!)

The boat will make 6 timed runs over a prescribed course. The best 3 out of the 6 will be averaged. The battery may not be recharged between runs.

The course will consist of....any ideas? I’m thinking a course around, say, four buoys a set distance apart. This would negate the wind factor, as well as adding the element of having to design some maneuverability.
